Nikon has just annonced their new Full Frame DSLR, the Nikon D4. Its a 16MP camera, which now supports an ISO of 204,800, shoots at 10FPS, and can shoot video at 1080P at 30FPS. It supports both UDMA-7 Cards and the new XQD format at upto 125MB/s. It will set you back about 6k…

Canon has announced a new Cinema Camera, the C300, and it looks pretty damn cool! couple of photos below of it. So, this is aimed at RED users, shoots 1080P video, has twin CF Card slots, HD-SDI output and supports timecode… Not sure what that is though…

It will take either a EF mount lens or a PL mount (Engadget mention “not both” but i don’t know if that means you buy one with either EF or PL mount…) The price? about $20,000… so, not my next video camera then… again, from the Engadget article, there is mention of 4k Resolutions support using new EF lenses, of which there are a few: 2 14.5 to 60mm, 2 30-300mms and a couple of primes too: 24, 50 and 85mm. Late January 2012 it will be available…

If i am looking at this correct, this may come in at the same kind of level of the 1Dx or maybe between it and the 5D MK II. Its a DSLR, that can shoot 4k video with a full frame sensor. Looks like a 1D style body, so don’t think this will be in at 5D MKII levels, but i could be wrong.

While Conon where showing off their stuff, RED announced the RED Scarlet. 4k Video (4096×2160 resolution!) and 5k Photos (5120 X 2700 res… a little more than 13MP). Video can be shot at 25FPS and photos at 12FPS. has a Canon mount so you can use your own Canon lenses on this too. Price? $9750. pretty impressive sounding camera.

Cannon has just announced the new Canon 1D-X: A Full Frame, 18MP camera, which shoots at 14FPS JPEG (12 RAW), Has an ISO of 204,000, Gigabit Ethernet (yup… not a typo!) and can shoot video at 1080p at 24 (23.97), 25 or 30 fps, or 720p at 50 or 60 fps. Videos are now not limited to the 4Gb file size of the Older Canons (like my 5D MK II) but due to tax laws in the EU (never heard of this before…) the video is still capped at just under 30 min… The Price? $6800… Press release and more photos at Engadget.

Also, Canon announced the release of a GPS addon (The GP-E1) for the 1DX as well as a 802.11N Wifi adapter (WFT-E6)… photos below.  would like these to be backward compatible with my 5D MKII, but guessing they wont be…

Its been a while since i posted here, but here we go anyway… Good bit of Sony news today:

• Sony unveils NEX-7: 24.3 MP sensor, OLED viewfinder, $1199 price tag - Biger brother of my NEX3, and now the top of the line (i think) of the NEX models.
• Sony NEX-5N replaces NEX-5, adds 16.1 MP sensor, 25,600 max ISO, OLED viewfinder option  - Upgrade to the NEX-5
• Sony reveals three new NEX E-mount lenses, LA-EA2 A-mount adaptor with translucent mirror - New glass for the NEX system… tempted by the 1.8 50mm…
• Sony Alpha A77 hands-on preview The A77 seems, but i could be wrong here, to be the daddy of cameras announced yesterday… by that i mean its the biggest/baddest one Sony announced yesterday, but that its the daddy overall… I think there is a bigger Sony out there somewhere, but i dont follow Sony cameras that much (other than the fact i have a NEX 3).
• Sony announces entry-level A65, adds yet another DSLR to the Alpha family - Seems to be a few steps up the food chain from the NEX Range, but below the bigger A series cameras… Looks interesting… 1080/60P video, 10FPS, and 24MP… Not bad…
• Sony debuts the Handycam NEX-VG20  Nice new Video camera, with RAW photo support (16MP) and 1080P video. Records audio at either Stereo or 5.1. Wondering if it needs an adapter for that…

• Support for multi machine owners: I have my MacBook Pro, which i use on the road when taking photos. i also have the GodBox (Big honking work station). I have my photos stored in multiple places (on the GodBox, i have a RAID 1 array with my photos and also photos stored on my Drobo. I also have my photos stored in Jungle disk). I would like some sort of automatic syncing feature so when i come home, with a new lightroom album on the laptop, for it to get synced back to my main machine. I would also like to be able to keep the meta data and maybe preview images stored on the laptop also…
• Built in GeoTagging: i have a few different cameras (Canon 5D MKII, Sony NEX-3, iPhone 4, Windows Phone 7, Samsung ST1000, etc). of these the Sony, the 2 mobiles and the Samsung all do geotagging (Sony with the help of the Eye-Fi Pro X2 card). I also have some external GPS loggers, which i sometimes carry with me. i would like Lightroom 4 to support taking the data from the GPS logger, either at import time or after, and add it to the metadata of the photos. it could also show the photos on a map. If i dont have full GPS data for the photos, i should be able to say which where taken in Dublin, New York, Belfast, Cork, etc…
• Face Recognition: this is a hit or miss one, but i think it might be handy to be able to see what photos have faces in them, and for Lightroom to tell me who they are… obviously i would need to teach it a little, but it could be very handy…
• Cluster Support: this is something that will more than likly not happen… but it would be a nice feature: I have the GodBox (Dual proc, Quad core, 12Gb Ram) a Mac Pro (Dual Proc, Dual Core, 12Gb RAM) a Proliant Server (Dual Core, 5Gb RAM), old opteron workstation (Dual Proc), and 2 Poweredge servers (one single proc, single core, the other quad core). the MacBook Pro has a Dual Core Processor and 8Gb RAM. If i could get them to all work together, it could make my workflow faster. Import the photo to my local machine (say the Laptop) and share them to the bigger machines to process… if they are doing face recognition, full size generation, etc, it could take some time. Getting 23 processing cores working on images, compared to just 2, should speed things up a good chunk, right?
• Better auto import support: i have never gotten this to work with my Eye-Fi. don’t know if its me or Lightroom, but it should be easier…
• Multiple Car Import: Dont know if this is a feature at the moment, but the ability to import from multiple cards/devices at the same time would be handy… given my current camera count…

Thats all i can think of at the moment… Anything you guys can think of?
